ARGENTATUS

(wind ensemble – 7:00)

Performers: St. Cloud State University Wind Ensemble.

Argentatus (Latin for “silver”) was commissioned by the Hopkins Westwind Concert Band in 2008 in

commemoration of the ensemble’s 25th Anniversary. The piece opens with a colorful introduction

featuring flutes (the instrument played by Westwind’s founding conductor) and trombones. This is

followed by two dance-like sections separated by a slow, lyrical interlude that includes a quote of the

ensemble’s signature program piece, Danny Boy. Argentatus is definitely accessible for the advanced

high school wind ensemble.
